3D printing technologies have been known for several decades and have been already used in arts, most often as accessories rather than as core material of a tangible installation art. We describe " Standing Humanity: 3D Yan Character " a collaborative and participative installation art based on 3D printing objects and we are analyzing participants' engagement and the playability of the installation. We analyze different types of interaction and conclude that 3D printing objects have a high potential to engage curiosity and open to interactions between visitors and the objects themselves. We finally suggest further investigations to explore 3D printing within the context of collaborative and interactive installation.

The word hack has taken on multiple meaning but in the last century it has been commonly associated with an individual or collective technological skills to illegally access computer systems. However, over the last fifty years, the terminology of hacking has changed, offering new definitions. This paper propose to review and define what hacking means outside its illegal meaning as well as describe a creative methodology approach based on it. Events such as hackathon or places such as hackerspaces have started transforming the meaning toward a positive experience and as a possible creative tool, however, little literature has yet studying these recent phenomenon and what could be their impact on cultural institutions. Our study proposes, based on events organized in the last decade, a possible new creative methodology in the arsenal of creative tools for cultural institutions and particularly museums.

Numerous models of elbow prostheses are being used and can be divided into two categories: one being a semi-constrained, linked type; and the other being non-constrained, unlinked type. Recent reports of National Elbow Arthroplasty Registers reveal no significant differences in the survival rates between linked and unlinked prosthesis brands, and the main cause appointed for revision for both types is loosening. Some previous biomechanical studies confirm the presence of abnormal bone stresses for the linked type, which can be associated with the risk of loosening. However for the unlinked type, biomechanical studies are not available that corroborate a loosening risk. It seems, that issue has not yet been fully answered and requires further analysis. Cortex strains adjacent to the elbow joint were measured with strain gauges in synthetic humeri and ulnae, before and after replacement. To assess cancellous bone strains and cement stresses around the implant finite element models validated relative to measured strains were used. Bone strains adjacent to the implant tip increased several times in the humerus and ulna. At the epiphyseal regions a generalised cancellous bone strain reduction was observed for both humerus and ulna relatively to the intact bones. The unlinked elbow prostheses can be associated with the risk of bone fatigue failure by overload, particularly in the ulna, and bone resorption by stress-shielding at the epiphyseal regions. The identical structural behaviour relative to linked prostheses associated with the same loosening risks corroborates the results of recent arthroplasty published register reports.

A study was performed to evaluate the impact of knowledge of HIV infection (diagnosis) on contraception information and choices for HIV infected women. A questionnaire was given to 140 HIV infected women. Most of the studied population included young women with a low educational level. A significant increase in the knowledge of contraceptive methods was observed after diagnosis of being HIV infected. The data suggested that the women who received information had never received it before, or that the diagnosis created a stronger motivation to listen to the counseling offered. A significant increase in the use of contraceptive methods was also found, especially male condoms and tubal ligation. Total number of children had a strong impact on contraceptive method at the time of interview. Only 5 of 23 HIV infected women who had no children used hormonal contraceptives, while 15 of 23 preferred condom use, and 3 of 23 chose not to use any contraceptive method. Tubal ligation was performed in approximately 9% of the women who had only one child. However, 12.4% of the sexually active HIV infected women were still not using any contraceptive method at the time of the interview. A combined method (male condom plus another contraceptive) was used by only 27% of sexually active HIV infected women, despite health service counseling. In conclusion, the realization of being HIV infected had a strong impact on contraceptive practice among these women. It is expected that HIV and family planning clinics will address HIV infected women's needs and be prepared to integrate contraception and gynecological care.

ABSTRACT Experimental pre-clinical tests associated with numeric models of cemented implants are important for screening of new implants in the market. The aim of this study was to measure strain profiles and maximum temperature polymerization inside a cement mantle of an in vitro cemented hip reconstruction using optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. For this purpose, a hip femoral prosthesis was instrumented with 12 FBG sensors, three in each aspect of the femur, anterior, posterior, medial and lateral. These were positioned at the proximal, middle and distal part of the cement mantle relatively to the stem. Another sensor was placed in the lateral-proximal region of the mantle to measure the maximum temperature of cement polymerization. The strains measured were compared with those obtained with a Finite Element model, both for quaistatic mechanical loading. The results show that the experimental technique used can measure strains inside the cement mantle with good correlation, R2 = 0.970, with the numerical model results. The results present a maximum temperature of polymerization around 110°C inside of cement at proximal region. It was also observed strain concentration in lateral aspect of the femur in polymerization process. The procedure hereby explained can be used to improve experimental pre-clinical tests to measure the strain distribution inside the cement mantle as well as residual strain and temperature variation along with time, as a result of the curing process of cement.
